Welcome To The Rink Rats
The following information is intended to give you some background into
the type of club we are but is by no means comprehensive, please do not
hesitate to ask anyone if you would like to know more. See our list of team officers
The Rink Rats were started to give the more “mature beginner” the chance to have a go at our favourite sport. We have a fairly wide
range of playing standards but our main objective is to have fun. We have
a minimum age limit of 18 and there is no maximum. Players of either sex
are welcome.

Training is currently every Wednesday night commencing at 10:00pm at the
Planet Ice rink in Peterborough. Most team members have full equipment,
anyone wishing to come on the ice with us requires a minimum of a stick,
helmet and protective gloves. Limited loan equipment is available, some
members have second hand kit for sale.
Each training session costs £7, payable before going on the ice
please.
We occasionally play challenge games against teams of a similar standard
and philosophy. Anyone wishing to take part must be registered with the
EIHA at an annual cost of £35 per year, application forms are available
from the Registration Secretary. We strongly encourage everyone who attends
training sessions on a regular basis to register as this includes liability
insurance cover.
Challenge Matches
The team for challenge games is picked on a “clubmanship”
basis rather than playing ability. This takes into account such things
as regular attendance at training sessions, contribution to the running
of the club, helping out with setting up before and clearing away after
training sessions and games, attitude on the bench and in the changing
rooms, etc.
As a strictly recreational team we play non-contact ice hockey so there
is no hitting permitted either at training or in games. It is the responsibility
of the person in charge of each training session to set a suitable example
and ensure an appropriate level of contact and respect for one another’s
safety is observed by everybody on the ice. The consumption of alcohol
before going on the ice is strictly forbidden at all times.
Club colours are black, white and green. We have a set of match shirts
courtesy of Sportswize, our team sponsor. If you are intending to invest
in kit then black shorts, helmet and socks (preferably Dallas Stars away
colours) would be best.
The committee is responsible for the overall running of the club, any
significant issues are referred to the whole team before any decisions
are made. While we cannot please all the people all of the time it is
our objective to try and do so. If you have any ideas that you feel would
improve the club we would be happy to discuss them with you.
To sum up, we are a happy friendly bunch of would-be hockey players and
hope that you will enjoy playing with us.

Rink Rats Selection Criteria
It has always been the objective of the Rink Rats to pick the team to
play in each match in the fairest possible way. It is also important to
reward those who exercise clubmanship with the opportunity to play in
competitive games.
The lifeblood of the club is obviously money and nearly all the income
of the Rink Rats is derived from training fees. It is therefore important
to encourage as many people as possible to attend regularly from a finance
point of view as well as to ensure having sufficient numbers to enable
a successful training session each week .
It is also important that all members contribute to general issues such
as clearing the nets, removing the goals, collecting pucks, returning
kit to the lock-up after each training session and game. Some Rats earn
extra clubmanship points by carrying out a specific job within the club.
The following selection criteria have therefore been formally adopted
by the committee and will be implemented by the Coach and Captain in picking
the team for each game. If anyone feels that these are not fair, or at
any time are not being applied fairly, then this should be brought to
the attention of a committee member for discussion and, if appropriate,
corrective action will be taken.
1. The team will consist of a maximum of fifteen outfield skaters and
two netminders.
2. In the event that more members declare themselves to be available,
those with the best attendance record for the previous twelve consecutive
training sessions will be selected to play. The only exception to this
rule is if low attendance is caused by an injury sustained in action with
the Rink Rats.
3. In the event that there is a tiebreak in attendance record then other
factors will be taken into consideration including attendance at away
games, contribution to clearing up equipment, contribution to the running
of the club, disciplinary record and reliability.
4. A player will automatically be ineligible for selection for the next
game if they are ejected from a game. The committee may extend this to
more than one game according to severity of offence.
5. A member who persistently does not contribute to the clearing away
of equipment, or demonstrates poor discipline during training and/or matches,
will be cautioned that refusal to reverse the behaviour may render them
ineligible for selection.
