To raise money for Cancer Research UK, Scootter has entered an inline marathon held annually in Rotterdam, NL. Check out the site here and check back for updates! Sponsor if you can as all funds raised go directly to Cancer Research UK.

12/07/2004 Rats lose in Streatham

Sunday in Streatham, the Rink Rats lost to The Westminster Statesmen, 9-4 in Streatham. Thanks to the Statesmen for a spirited game and we look forward to the re-match in Peterborough!

As a public service, and to help all you who want to get some practice with your shot away from the rink, I will be putting up a page in a week or so called 'How to build your own street hockey net for under £25!' The net looks like this:

19/06/2004 5 games booked for June, July & August

Please check the schedule as 5 games have been booked, in June, 1 home & 1 away, in July 1 away, and in August 2 home. Check back often as more games will be added in July, hopefully!

1/05/2004 Rink Rats hang on to win against the Durham Dragons

The Rink Rats held on against the Durham Dragons to win 5-4. Durham showed alot of character in overcoming a 5-1 defeicit going into the 3rd, but the Rink Rats held off the charge to skate away with the win. Man of the Match Chris Martin put 4 away for the winning side with Scootter adding the 5th. Special thanks to Westie, Richard F and Scootter for taking up the reffing duties after another no-show from the league refs.

28/03/2004 Game vs London Legion Cancelled

Due to a problem with double-booking of the ice, our game against the London Legion has been cancelled.

15/03/2004 Rink Rats winning streak to start 2004

We are on a mini-streak as we won again on Sunday, 5-3 over visiting Solihull. It was a close game, staying 3-1 until opening up a bit in the 3rd. MoM for the Rink Rats, Martin Smith with 2 goals. Thanks to Rob MacGregor for filling in as ref and a big thanks to Amanda Johnson for the fine DJ work!

27/02/2004 Rink Rats 1st win of 2004

We won our first game of 2004 in fine fashion, downing the Milton Keyne Jesters 8-6. It was a hard fought game and a great time was had by all. Special thanks to both team captains for filling in as refs as we had a problem with the one's booked, so well done Westie and MK Jesters' captain!

21/02/2004 Scootter Steps Down as Coaching Co-ordinator

Due to work committments, etc. Scootter has stepped down as coaching co-ordinator, so all coaching will be handled by Ken Clarke, Simon Jones and Steve Whyte.

02/02/2004 MEMO FROM THE MANAGER

As a follow-up to the new committee positions highlighted earlier, Rob (our new manager) has issued the following memo to summarise the key points from the EGM held on 19th January 2004

Adopted way forward for the Club

  • Reaffirm the fun aspect of hockey at the expense of competitiveness
  • Lines to be used in strict rotation during games, i.e. no substituting the next line due out with better players for power plays or penalty kills
  • Equal ice time for all during games
  • 30 minutes of drills, 30 minutes of training for weekly training sessions
  • "Punishment" not to be used, i.e. skating laps
  • Keep as many players as possible working during drills
  • Coaching duties to be shared amongst all qualified coaches
  • Drills for training to be agreed in advance for the month by the coaches
  • Drills to be discussed in locker room to make the most of the ice time
  • Any EIHA registered player 18 years of age of older will be allowed to train with the Rink Rats
  • Any player with an issue/comment/suggestion regarding the club should speak to the captain in the first instance.

28/01/2004 NEW PLAYER INFO

As some of you may have noticed, although you are registered with the team you are not on the roster. That's because I don't have an updated roster list from Ken, which I will sort out tonight. That's will only get your name on the list though, if you want to have a profile page, please see me to get one a profile form, or download one here and e-mail it back to me.

26/01/2004 TRAINING QUESTIONNAIRE

As you all know we now have 4 coaches to share the load of training. In order to help us make sure the training meets your expectations, a training questionnaire has been prepared and is available here. Paper copies will be distributed at training on the 28th and these must be returned by the 4th of February. If we only get one back, this will decide training for the next 3 months, so fill it out!

25/01/2004 AN UPDATE TO THE SITE!!!

Hi all, well it has only been over a year but the site has an update! At a recent Extraordinary AGM some changes took place to the team officials, the new positions are now held by:

Team Manager - Rob McGregor

Team Chairman - Scott van Slyck (Scootter)

Team Captain- Dave Weston (Westie)

Team Treasurer - Steve Bryant

Match Co-ordinator - Lisa Park

Team Coaches - Ken Clarke, Simon Jones, Steve Whyte, Scott van Slyck

The biggest change is that the coaching duties will now be shared, and the training sessions will be run in a rotating fashion. The coaches will be meeting monthly to work out the drills, etc. and as it's YOUR team, please let one of us know if you want to try different drills, have a drill that you think is great, or any other feedback!

Updates to the site should happen more often as the Webmaster (Scootter) now has some HTML editing software sorted.

Thanks to the departing comittee members, your dedication and hard work was appreciated!

20/11/2002 NEW TEAM TOP MINDER NEEDED

Attention all Rink Rats. Due to circumstances beyond her control, Lisa won't be able to take care of the tops any longer. The Rink Rats want to take a moment to thank her for all her hard work in making sure we always had clean and fresh smelling tops for our matches, home or away... so well done Lisa! Now the mantle needs to be passed on...who will step up to the challenge and be the new top minder? This means making sure the right tops are at the match, collected after the matches and laundered. The team will pay for the cost of laundry detergent or the use of a laundrette. Volunteers please contact Scootter. Thanks in advance!

5/11/2002 MANAGEMENT CHANGE

Due to circumstances beyond his control, Steve Whyte has stepped aside as Team Manager and Scott van Slyck (Scootter) has stepped up from Assistant Manager to Manager. The Rink Rats want to thank Steve for his hard work during his tenure as Manager and we know he has left some big skates to fill.

19/10/2002 NEED KIT?

Scootter is heading back to Canada on the 14th of December and is offering to bring back kit for those who need it. Check out The Hockey Hutch to see what is available and to get an idea of the prices, remember to add on 20% for taxes and baggage fees. Contact Scootter with your requests by the 7th of December, payment due upon delivery. Be sure to try on the same or similar kit in a local shop to ensure proper fit, this is critical with skates!

07/10/2002 AGM SCHEDULED

The Annual General Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, the 16th of October at 2000h (8:00 pm) in the bar. Please make an effort to attend as this is your chance to discuss your team, elect the team officers and see what the plans are for 2002/03.

07/10/2002 2002/03 REGISTRATIONS DUE BY 31st OCTOBER

The registrations for the 2002/03 Season are now due, the fee is £30 and the EIHA has done away with dual-registations this year, you can now register with up to 3 different teams, however, the fee is £30 per team. Please bring your completed form and £30 to training ASAP as only registered players are allowed to play in challenge matches.
