Inline Marathon 2005

I did it... 2 hours 3 minutes 51 seconds and total sponsorship raised £1060...

Another year has passed and I have just registered for the 2005 event, being held on the 11th of September 2005. All the flights & hotels are booked, so there is no turning back now!

Come back for more updates, and check back after the event to see an updated gallery, blog and
sponsor numbers. My goal this year is £1000, so if you are reading this site and haven't sponsored me, but would like to, send me a mail

Now in case you have always wondered why it's called a marathon and why it's 26.2 miles in distance, here is the story: It's because that's roughly the distance between the Greek cities of Marathon and Athens. In 490 BC, the Greek army repelled a Persian naval invasion on the plains surrounding the coastal city of Marathon. According to legend, a runner was sent to Athens to relay news of the victory. Upon reaching Athens, the young man shouted " Rejoice, we conquer! " and fell to the ground dead.

Needless to say I am hoping I fare a little better than our Greek friend! I am hoping at the end of my marathon all I say is: "I'm alive! Where's my beer?"

I have skated in a half-marathon and a 10k marathon in 2001 & 2002 respectively, however, this is 26.2 miles we are talking about! Hence, I have decided to start my very own blog, if nothing else to look back and see the progress I have made. (ever the optimist!)

I am doing it to raise money for Cancer Research UK since one of my oldest and dearest friends in the world got cancer, and has since got the all clear, but since so many people get it every year, I wanted to do my part. I am actively seeking sponsorship, to see the list of sponsors thus far click here

I have put together a training schedule with the help of some clever friends, Steve B (sits across from me at work), Heidi V (another colleague who happens to also be a personal trainer), and Jayne W (my physio, whom I will no doubt be visiting after I have completed the marathon!) If you would like to see what I have planned check it out here

I will also be maining a BLOG to detail what the training has been like so far, and how it's going, you can check that out here

There is also a gallery where you can see some images from my first 2 inline events, and I will be updating it with pictures from training and also the main event! Check it out here

Proline Skates have generously offered to sponsor my effort with spares for my rollerblades, please visit them if you are interested in taking up inline skating! Check them out here
