Chasing a hit and run...
So... last week I am on my way home from ice hockey, my BMIL in the car *That's best mate in law*, Neet's best mate... she is having a tough time at the mo so I suggested coming to visit Copenhagen to get away...
So we are driving home, and this nutter is weaving all over behind us, so I pull over a bit, and he tries to squeeze between the car on my left and I, and hits me!
And then... he doesn't stop!
I followed to get a number plate, and discovered there was none and the car was packed full of stuff (A small estate it was)... so I handed the mobile to BMIL and she got the cops on the line...
I decided to follow him as he was not driving erratically or like a nutter, and the strangest thing happened... he obeyed all red lights, indicated turns, etc. but WOULD NOT STOP...
As it was safe to follow I did... BMIL giving police the details on where we were... he kept slowing down like he was going to stop, then would go down some side streets, seeming like he was trying to lose me, but always indicating and not really speeding overmuch...
I even started to think that maybe the driver was going home, or to somewhere like a garage forecourt as maybe they were scared, etc.
Finally they pulled over, and opened their door... and suddenly I thought... Oh Shit... what if they come out with a bat... so I kept the car running and 10 metres away, and put the window down to shout that the police were en route and we had them on the phone..
I then saw it was a kid, maybe 19-20, who initially tried to yell at me that I hit him! Until I got my larger person from the car, puffed up and said "Are you having a fucking laugh?"... he then shrunk and said... oh sorry sorry... polish, sorry.. no police, please no police...
In fact, when I turned around he was kneeling, hands clasped begging me not to call the police...
He then got up, opened the back and started to offer me random pieces of crap from the boot...
Then 5 police cars turned up, and after seeing it was a kid and I, one stayed, and they seperated us to interview...
When I looked back the kid was cuffed, hood was open, and the copper with him was taking everything out of the car, questioning him on each item.
Our copper then thanked me and said I could go and he would call in a couple of days.
I then found out this morning that last night the cops in Copenhagen broke up a Polish gang who were robbing household goods from moving vans parked overnight.. and it became clear that this guy had more than likely stolen this car, with someone elses things, hence the speed and unwillingness to stop...
So I suppose I did my good deed by following him, but I have to say I am more than a little freaked by the whole episode...
